What is the cost of testing?

Our testing and evaluation services are self pay only. This approach allows us to provide more personalized and comprehensive assessments without the limitations often imposed by insurance companies. It ensures that we can focus on delivering the highest quality of care tailored to each child’s unique needs, leading to more accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans. See more information below.

Do I need a referral?

CCCofH accepts self or caregiver referral for testing; however, your primary care doctor or school may make a referral. It is likely that the evaluator will seek input from such outside resources.

Release of Reports in Cases of Divorced or Separated Parents:

If parents are divorced or separated and only one parent is assuming the financial responsibility for an assessment, the following policy applies:

  • The parent who has paid for the assessment will receive a copy of the report as part of the service.
  • If the non-paying parent requests a copy of the report, they will be required to:
    • Schedule and attend a separate feedback session, the cost of which will be their responsibility.
    • Pay a fee for the copy of the report, which will be based on Pennsylvania’s guidelines for copying medical records and may include charges for labor, materials, and postage.
  • Both parents retain the right to access the child’s medical records unless restricted by a court order or custody agreement. A copy of any such order or agreement must be provided to the practice.

Why Are Our Assessments Self-Pay?

At the Children’s Counseling Center of Hershey, we believe that comprehensive psychological assessments are essential for providing the most accurate understanding of each individual’s strengths and challenges. To maintain the highest standards of care, our assessments are offered on a self-pay basis. Here’s why:

1. Comprehensive Evaluations, Without Limitations

Insurance often limits the scope of evaluations, restricting the amount of time spent assessing, interpreting results, and discussing recommendations. With self-pay, our clinicians are able to:

  • Offer customized and in-depth assessments based on each client’s unique needs.
  • Spend the necessary time to gather a full picture of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
  • Provide you with a more personalized report and detailed feedback.

2. No Waiting for Pre-Approvals or Red Tape

The insurance process can delay the evaluation, leaving families waiting for vital answers. Self-pay means:

  • Faster scheduling of appointments.
  • No delays due to insurance approvals or paperwork.

3. Focus on Quality Care, Not Insurance Criteria

Insurance companies often dictate what tests can be conducted and what they will cover. Self-pay allows us to:

  • Use evidence-based assessments that are best suited to your child’s needs.
  • Include specialized testing for conditions such as autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and more, without restriction.

4. Transparency in Costs

Our self-pay model allows us to:

  • Provide a clear fee structure with no hidden costs.
  • Offer flexibility in payment options, including installment plans, making our services accessible to families who need them.

5. Your Privacy Protected

By not involving insurance, you maintain greater control over your child’s records and privacy. Your personal health information stays between you and your clinician.
